Family members: John A. Peterson, husband, Phillip (son) and Sherron Peterson—who have as children P.J., Brennen, Mikaela, and Nathan; David (son) and Christine Peterson—who have as children Kylee and ALexa; Jan (daughter) and Steven Dawson—who have as children Taylor, Spencer, Maren, and Paige.

  1. Using 150 to 200 words, please state your reasons for running for office. What compels you to take on this responsibility?
     
    Government of the people, by the people, and for the people – I want to restore common sense and balance to the Utah House of Representatives.
     
  2. What do you consider to be the top three issues currently facing Utah? Please list them in order of priority to you (with #1 the most important) and explain why they are important to you and to Utah.

    World class education for our children. Salaries of teachers must be increased. Class size reduction is critical. Education funds should be used for education – not pet projects.

    Creation of bipartisan Redistricting commission. Reapportionment should be under the supervision of the citizens. This is their government.

    Eliminate tax credits granted to business locating in Utah. There are 68 specific exemptions. These monies belong to education. Economic development is important but not at the expense of our children.
     
  3.  What do you plan to do to address your top three issues?
     
    I will sponsor legislation to address the above issues.
     
     
  4. What are your most important accomplishments that would make you the most qualified candidate for office?
     
    I was employed by the House of Representatives for over 30 years. I know the legislative process. I want to serve all the citizens of the state. I am qualified.
     

  5. What skills, talents, and strengths do you have that enhance your ability to be an effective office holder?
     
    I know the Rules and Mason’s Manual of Legislative Procedures. These are rules vital to preserve the integrity of the institution.
     

  6. Why do you belong to your political party? 
     
    I am a democrat. I have oserved both parties in action and my core values do not correspond with the extreme right wing principles of the other party.
